Broken emergency response system endangers Iowans

EMTs IN IOWA

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/investigations/2014/07/13/ems-broken-emergency-response-system-endangers-iowans/12589255/More than 13,000 EMTs have certifications to work within Iowa. Click on the map to see how many EMTs live in each county and the average response time in counties where data is available (data was provided for the 48 counties that have four or more services).

Note: Response times are not available in 51 of Iowa's 99 counties due to a state law that prohibits public disclosure of response times in a manner that would enable a citizen or legislator to figure out the state’s fastest or slowest ambulance services.

Number of EMTs indicates the county that the person lives in, not necessarily works in. Some EMTs live in other states but commute to work within Iowa.
